Iacocca receives LAS Outstanding Research award

Prof. Iacocca received the College of Letters, Arts, and Science Outstanding Research Award. The committee was “especially impressed with [the] high number of publications during a short time at UCCS, as well as […] over one million dollars in research grants, and more than two dozen talks given at conferences and seminars.”

This award is an honor that reflects the hard work carried out by everyone in the group and it also signifies a research standard to follow and continue to raise.

Ghanem’s PhD defense

Congratulations to Ghanem for his successful PhD defense! Even though this was late of Friday, it was great to see a packed room and a committee asking plenty of questions!

Ally’s PhD defense

Congratulations to Ally who successfully defended her PhD! Ally is the first PhD in the group and has set an excellent standard for those to come. Very well done!

Lawrence to research at ETH

Lawrence will be visiting the group of Prof. Yiwen Chu at ETH Zurich to perform research on spin-acoustics interactions. Prof. Chu’s group is investigating the coupling between an acoustic resonator and spins in silicon vacancy centers (Si-V centers).

Within our group, Lawrence has been an exceptional undergraduate researcher. He developed and performed simulations on the macroscopic artificial spin ices and performed micromagnetic simulations of the magneto-toroidal ASI. In total, he contributed to three manuscripts. Lawrence was also awarded UCCS’s URA and was a Barry Goldwater Scholarship recipient.

We wish Lawrence continued success in his future research at ETH and future opportunities!

First magnetism retreat

We held of first magnetism retreat where all members from our group and Prof. Bozhko’s group met to present their yearly achievements.

The event was quite fun and we are looking forward to establish it as a tradition in our department!

Matt Copus joins the group

We are very happy to welcome Matt Copus to the group as a postdoctoral scholar. Matt comes with experience closely related to the group’s research, both micromagnetic simulations and spin wave dispersion.

Elettra showcases domain wall motion

Our recent work on ultrafast domain wall motion due to ultrafast excitation was recently showcased as a top story at the Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste. We are very happy about the attention this work is receiving and the opportunities it opens for future research.

Our group’s contribution to this work has been also highlighted in UCCS’s communique article.

Successful comps!

Medhanie, Ally, and Ghanem successfully became PhD candidates this fall. Congratulations and well done!
